Walks And Walking – St Ives Cornwall South West Coastal Path Walking Route

Walks And WalkingSt Ives Cornwall South West Coastal Path Walking Route

This was it… one of the very first walks we ever did way back in November 2009 that started our walking adventures. Starting off from the beautiful St Ives we made our way out along the South West Coastal Path walking route before circling back through farmland pathways and the odd Llama.

Wrapped up well in a good waterproof jacket and a decent pair of walking boots I couldn’t resist the urge to still wear my walking shorts but with some emergency trousers in my rucksack in case it got too cold.

Starting off from the car park in St Ives we walked down to Porthmeor beach past the TATE St Ives and headed west to find the signposts for the South West Coastal Path (SWC Path) where there were quite a few walkers already heading out. Passing Carrick Du on our right we continued along to Clodgy Point and Burthallan Cliff where the path narrows and become quite rocky with a few cliff edge climbs to come.

Passing Hellesveor Cliff, Hor Point, Trowan Cliff, Pen Enys Point, Polgassick Rock and cove to Trevalgan Cliff and the shafts at Brea Cove which is where we then left the SWC Path at a sharp left. Passing about 4 fields on our left we turned another shapr left to have a look at the disused mine before turning right and right again before a sharp left to head in an easterly direction back to St Ives. Following the pathway through farmland to BS Rock and the small village of Trevalgan and the caravan park.

Continuing straight ahead on the same pathway we walked through Trowan and on to Venton Vision Farm we then turned left instead of joining the road down to Higher Burthallan through more farmland to rejoin the SWC Path at Burthallan Cliff to make the most of the views before well deserved beer and great food in St Ives after about 8 miles and 3 hours later of excellent and often quite hard going walking.
