This short Epping Forest family walking route starts in the Snaresbrook road car park by the Eagle Ponds. At the back of the car park is the main track in to Epping Forest where you will find The Hornbeam Trail map on your right hand side with the distinctive Green Arrow sign posts and waymarkers clearly dotted along this thoroughly enjoyable walking route.

Epping Forest has been investing in developing lots of new walks in Epping Forest and this is another one that is extremely easy to follow, not too muddy and, at just over 3 miles, suitable for all of the family who want to enjoy a leisurely hour or so in this part of Epping Forest at Hollow Ponds.

With Eagle Ponds on your left hand side as you follow the main track along The Hornbeam Trail you head left and then right to continue following the green arrows all the way down to Whipps Cross Road. You then walk right all the way up Whipps Cross Road passing all the various tea cabins and snack bars until you reach the far side of Hollow Ponds and the boating area. You then walk to the right following the lake edge before walking left up to Lee Bridge Road.

Crossing over the road you continue to follow the green arrows along the main track all the way up through Canada Plain, crossing the next road to continue following the main tracks at Waterworks Woods. You then walk right by the edge of the Waterworks roundabout and then down by Gilbert’s Slade and back to the car park at Snaresbrook Road by Eagle Ponds.
