This is a classic family walk in Epping Forest following The Lime Tree Trail Leytonstone walk route for about a mile of well maintained tracks starting at Harrow Road Sports Pavillion where I parked in the car park on Harrow Road. The terrain is mostly level ground across grassland and through woodland taking me just over half an hour with a distance of just over 1 mile.

Although not known for being one of the nicest areas of Epping Forest Leytonstone has a solid history associated with these ancient woodlands. The main thoroughfare in Leytonstone, High Road Leytonstone, runs the length of Leytonstone to Stratford and is an ancient pathway dating to pre-Roman times. Roman archaeological features have been found in the area with the name Leytonstone — in early documents Leyton-Atte-Stone — deriving from the large stone standing at the junction of Hollybush Hill and New Wanstead; in the 18th-century an obelisk was mounted on top of it, and it has been claimed that it is the remains of a Roman milestone.
