Winter Walking Holiday Austria
With winter just around the corner it is the perfect time to start thinking about winter walks and perhaps a winter walking holiday. There are lots of different options when it comes to a winter walking break, if you fancy going a bit further afield than the UK, Austria could be just the place.
Within easy access of Innsbruck airport, Tyrol in western Austria is home to an abundance of varied winter walking paths in quiet picturesque valleys. Hotel Wiesenhof in the village of Pertisau is set on the banks of Lake Achensee under the watchful gaze of the Karwendel Mountains and makes a great basecamp for your getaway. The hotel is ideally located for quick access to some truly stunning winter walking routes.
Tyrol offers a variety of winter walking, along lakeside, mountain and valley trails. There is a wide choice of specially prepared paths along the shores of the majestic Lake Achensee and through the surrounding valleys and serene mountains. The valleys are traffic-free meaning peaceful and relaxing walking routes. You don’t have to worry about traffic, you are free to take in your beautiful surroundings and walk at your own pace. There are around 150km of maintained and waymarked tracks in the region, which are all accessible by bus if you fancy exploring the surrounding area in more detail. Good-quality, sturdy hiking boots are recommended for the paths.
Pertisau is also the perfect location for cross-country and downhill skiing. The cross-country ski trails start right behind Hotel Wiesenhof and take you through the trees and across alpine meadows into the valleys which lead out from the pretty village.
In addition to the scenic cross-country skiing trails there is a whole host of other winter activities on offer including ice-skating, curling, tobogganing and if you are looking for something a bit more relaxing you can take a horse-drawn sleigh ride through the beautiful winter landscape. Winter holidays are one way to embrace the cold weather and experience the beauty of a winter landscape.
