Walks And Walking – Sandwich Walk in Kent

This was a very simple and very easy 3 mile circular walk in Sandwich to Richborough Roman Fort, Kent.

We parked the car about half way up Richborough Road, just outside of Sandwich and walked up to the gate to join the footpath by the River Stour underneath the A256 road.

We then walked left to cross over the stile by the railway line to another road that we crossed straight over to a kissing gate that lead across fields on a clearly marked track through the grass.

We followed the path as it bent to the right hand side of the hedge in to woodland where we followed the main track to a stile.

We continued our walk following the field edge turning right at the sign post by the overgrown ditch up to a gate where we then continued to follow the main track by the field edge with the remains of the Roman Amphitheatre on our right hand side.

As we reached the next gate we found some beautiful poppies in amongst the daisies.

We crossed the road and walked up the lane by the houses on our left all the way up to Richborough Roman Fort where we followed the track round to the left of the fort turning right at the garden.

We then crossed the stile on our left back over the railway line and walked sharp right down the signposted track to the canal boats and gardens where we continued our walk with the River Stour on our left hand side to retrace our steps back to the car.
