Walks And Walking – Fairlight Cove Dinosaur Walk in East Sussex

This is a 9 mile circular walk in Pett, East Sussex, which ends with a visit to the beach at Fairlight Cove to see the dinosaur footprints.

From our base at Caru in Winchelsea we drove the 4.5 miles down Sea Road and then Pett Level Road to park up in the free car park just before the Smuggler Inn in Pett.

We then walked right to follow the road around the corner walking right at the first footpath signpost just after the bottom of Chick Hill at Elm Cottage.

We followed this track where we then walked right at Old Marsham Farm where we then crossed over the footbridge to continue in the same direction up and over the fields until we reached the top of Chick Hill at Pett Road.

We then walked left to follow the road through Pett, stopping by a beautiful Oast House, to the church where we walked left through the stone stile to the back of the church.

We followed this track until we reached the beekeeping area on the field edge which lead us round to a gate.

We crossed over the gate and walked left down the lane and then we walked left on to Rosemary Lane where we stopped by a beautiful white cottage.

We then walked down Rosemary Lane walking right at Warren Road all the way down this stone pathway to the end.

We then walked across the lane and up the steps to Hastings Country Park where we headed straight up to the wide pathway and a well deserved rest for lunch, with amazing views out to sea.

We continued our walk down towards the beach, now following the Saxon Shore Way, at the top of Fire Hills and Fairlight Cove until we reached Shepherds Way. (On my walking app it did say there was a through road but after we walked to the end it had been blocked off due to erosion so we walked back and turned right up Shepherds Way).

We then walked right at Bramble Way which lead in to Rockmead Road and then walked right at Lower Waites Lane all the way down to Sea Road where we then climbed up the steps to continue along the Saxon Shore Way.

We followed this track all the way back to Pett Level Road just opposite Elm Cottage.

We then walked right and right again to the beach where we walked right to the end of the sea wall and on to the beach for another mile searching for dinosaur footprints in the bedrock at Fairlight Cove.
