HF Holidays Guided Walk – Carisbrooke Castle Walking Route
HF Holidays Guided Walk – Carisbrooke Castle Linear Walking Route
This was a highly enjoyable 10 mile linear walking route on the Isle of Wight from the coast of Brighstone to Carisbrooke Castle.
This was our third walk from our walking holiday with HF Holidays, staying at Freshwater Bay House on the Isle of Wight.
The morning started with an amazing sunrise at Freshwater Bay as we enjoyed our breakfasts.

HF Holidays Guided Walk – Carisbrooke Castle Walking Route – Freshwater Bay Sunrise
The coach picked us up at 9.30am to take us along the Military Road to the Isle of Wight Pearl at Chiltern Chine, just outside of Brighstone.
We crossed over the road from the car park up a short track to a lane.
Shortly after Chiltern Farm we walked right at the signpost up a track.
We continued along this track until we reached a lane where we kept straight ahead and into Brighstone.
At the church we walked left and kept straight ahead, leaving Brighstone, to start the slow and steady climb up Moortown following the main track right and then left up to the viewpoint at Limerstone Down.
We then walked right at the main ridgeway track where we eventually ended up at the church at Shorwell.
This part of the walk was absolutely fantastic – the country air, the tranquility and the views were simply gorgeous. This, for me, is why I love walking so much because every so often you hit a spot which is absolutely idyllic for getting away from the stresses and strains of everyday life.
At the Shorwell Church we stopped for lunch.
After lunch we walked right up the road and walked right at the next track which headed up to Westridge Down.
We then walked right along the main track as it lead us right around the top of Westridge Down where we then walked right before Garstons Down to the lane at Gatcombe.
We then walked left down the lane keeping straight ahead through Great Whitcombe Manor all the way to Carisbrooke Castle.
As we were running early for the coach Tedi and I went into the castle for a quick look round.
This walk covered 10 miles and took us 6 hours.
