HF Holidays Guided Walk – Godshill Circular Walking Route
HF Holidays Guided Walk – Godshill Circular Walking Route
This was a highly enjoyable 11 mile Godshill circular walking route on the Isle of Wight.
This was our second walk from our walking holiday with HF Holidays, staying at Freshwater Bay House on the Isle of Wight.
The morning started with one of Freshwater Bay House’s amazing cooked breakfasts.
The coach picked us up at 9.30am and we set off on the 30 minute drive to Godshill. We parked in the main car park and then walked south to the footpath opposite the road through Godshill Park and Natural History Centre.
We followed the main track through a small woodland area to a lane where we walked left and then straight ahead until the lane became a track through another small woodland area with views out to the countryside.
We then walked left around the bottom of the hill before taking a sharp right up the track to climb very steeply uphill to the obelisk, or to give its official title – a large pile of breeze blocks!
By now the weather had decided it was going to be a miserable day so after a quick snack stop and adding a few more layers on we set off.
We continued to follow the main track all the way down until we reached Rew Down and Steephill where we stopped at an interesting public garden for lunch.
We then headed down the lane and walked left at the road uphill and then right at the next lane.
As the lane climbed steeply up St Boniface Down we stopped briefly at the viewpoint and masts.
As the lane went right we walked left across fields following the natural curve of the track to Shanklin Down.
Just after St Martin’s Down we reached another small wood where we zig-zagged down through to the bottom.
We then walked left to keep following the main track to Wroxall.
At the main road we walked left and then right at the next lane walking right to join a track which took us all the way up to Appuldurcombe House.
We continued our walk straight ahead with Appuldurcombe House on our left hand side to the car park.
We then just followed the main track passed Redhill Farm and a couple of small woodland areas all the way back to Godshill, walking left at the road and then right into the car park.
This walk took us 5 1/2 hours covering 11 1/2 miles.
