HF Holidays Self-Guided Walk – Yarmouth Walking Route

This was a highly enjoyable 8 mile circular walking route on the Isle of Wight from Freshwater Bay to Yarmouth along the picturesque River Yar.

This was our fourth, and sadly final, walk from our walking holiday with HF Holidays, staying at Freshwater Bay House on the Isle of Wight.

Before breakfast Tedi and I went into the discovery room to take a look at all of the self-guided walks available from Freshwater Bay House.

With 31 miles walked already we were looking for something a little more gentle to help us wind down and ready for our final evening with HF Holidays and our journey home in the morning. We picked out an easy 8 mile circular walk along the River Yar to Yarmouth and back.

From Freshwater Bay House we walked across the lawn to the gate that headed down to the beach.

We then walked passed the lifeboat station and up the hill walking left along the track just after the main road, A3055, to the golf course.

We then walked left at the signpost to cross over the field to the lane.

We then walked left and then right up the lane to Afton Manor all the way up to the bridge over the River Yar.

The next part of the walk was remarkably simple – walk right up the track adjacent to the River Yar all the way up to Yarmouth.

As the track ends it joins a road where we then walked left all the way down to the pier.

We then walked left to the roundabout and crossed over the road to a large picnic area by the sailing club.

After lunch we walked across the bridge walking left down a wide track through Norton to a small woodland.

Again, the next part of this walk was very simple – keep following the track all the way down to the church.

As we walked we enjoyed lovely views out across Norton Green.

At the church we walked left, walking over the River Yar, and then right at the first track after the bridge.

At the main road we walked left and then right into Afton nature reserve to cross over a lane and continue along the main track the road back at Freshwater Bay House.

This Yarmouth walking route took us 2.5 hours to complete.
