HF Holidays Larpool Hall – Goathland Walk

HF Holidays Larpool Hall – Goathland Walk

This HF Holidays guided walk in the North York Moors National Park is a circular walk in Goathland, covering a total distance of 7 miles with a total ascent of 950 feet.

The coach picked us up promptly at 9.30am for the short drive from Larpool Hall Whitby to Goathland car park.

The Walk Leader ran us through the walking route and our plan for the day, which included a visit to the Mallyan Spout Waterfall.

We then exited the drop off point and followed the signpost marked to Mallyan Spout Waterfall.

As we entered the woodland area we continued our walk down and then walked left at the next signpost.

We scrambled over the rocks for 130 metres to Mallyan Spout Waterfall where we all had a good look around.

After a short while we walked back on ourselves to the signpost and continued straight ahead through the woodlands.

We left the woodlands to walk up the track to Incline Cottage, an old railway building in Beck Hole now used as a holiday cottage.

The cottage is actually called Quoits Cottage and outside on the green lay several ‘structures’ used to play the game.

We then continued our walk left along the disused railway tracks through the picturesque hamlet of Beck Hole.

We were now making our way to Grosmont and as we continued to follow the disused railway track the views opened up to the glorious North York Moors.

We continued our walk and entered more woodlands where we crossed over a bridge within a lovely river setting,

We then reached St Matthew Grosmont and walked down the path to the Old School Coffee Shop.

Here we all stopped for lunch and a really good look around the railway sheds and station of Grosmont.

There was a steady flow of steam trains chugging in and out of the station so it was great for the kids and adults alike.

We then left Grosmont and made our way back to Goathland following The Rail Trail.

The Rail Trail is an easy to follow 3.5 mile walk through heritage landscapes and the beautiful woodland river side paths.

We then made our way back along the disused railway track to Incline Cottage and the village of Goathland.

We had an hour before our coach was due so we got to explore the film location of the TV series Heartbeat.

We had a nostalgic trip down memory lane to Scripps Funeral Parlour, Aidensfield Garage and some even popped in to the Aidensfield Arms for a drink!

There was enough time to also walk down to Goathland railway station which was used in the Harry Potter films before our coach picked us up and back to Larpool Hall.
