HF Holidays Larpool Hall – Staithes to Sandsend Walk
HF Holidays Larpool Hall – Staithes to Sandsend Walk
This HF Holidays guided walk in the North York Moors National Park is a linear coastal walk from Staithes to Sandsend, covering a total distance of 10 miles with a total ascent of 920 feet.
The coach picked us up promptly at 9.30am at Larpool Hall for the short drive from Whitby to Staithes car park.
The Walk Leader ran us through the walking route and our plan for the day, which was slightly adapted as the general consensus from the group was 90 minutes in Staithes was a bit too long to wait around.
Good to see so many keen walkers on day one!
The weather was very warm but cloudy and humid so not really ‘beach weather’.
We then exited the drop off point and walked down to Staithes to cross over the bridge and have a quick look around the harbour area and lifeboat station.
We then walked back up the cobbled streets of Staithes to join the Cleveland Way to Port Mulgrove.
We walked up to the cliff path and followed the gentle rolling coastline hills and after a short break walked a steep descent down a small valley.
We then continued our walk up the other side of the valley to Runswick Bay, stopping for a short break along the cliff path of the Cleveland Way.
At Runswick Bay we all stopped for lunch.
The lifeboat station was quite active with boats out and about on manoeuvres.
There’s a large seaside cafe and toilets available so the perfect place for a stop off.
We then continued our walk along the beach where we then scrambled up some rocks on our right hand side, taking some steps back up to the cliff path.
Although the clouds had broken and the sun shining through it was a windy day up on the cliff path.
From Runswick Bay we walked to Kettleness.

Leading down through woodlands to Sandsend car park
We then continued our walk through woodlands to a steep staircase down to the final leg of our walk, The Cinder Track.
We followed The Cinder Track to the large car park at Sandsend, a fabulous sandy beach oasis!
We then walked up to the coach pick up point for the very short journey back to Larpool Hall, and some of the more ambitious of the group continued along the coast to walk the extra 3 or so miles back to the hotel.
